The Netherlands, 1977. In his latest series oil paintings ‘Memories of light’, Dutch artist Tobias Spierenburg shows a variation of ambiances of his favourite subject, the tree. In most of the paintings the landscape has almost disappeared, fog and various effects of light leave only a subtle impression of the spots he has visited. With very little means an image is being created.
Often only small differences in tone and color are being used and all that is considered distractive is being left out. By working in this manner, with personal developed techniques, the painter achieves a striking calmness in his work. The viewer is invited to look, and look again at the painting as the painter has done at his subject.
